Carlos Soler Set to Leave PSG for La Liga or Premier League

Carlos Soler is likely to leave Paris Saint-Germain in the next 10 days. Both a permanent move and a loan are options. The Spanish midfielder wants to go back to La Liga or join a Premier League team as the summer transfer window closes.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Soler came to PSG from Valencia in 2022 but struggled to play regularly. He spent last season on loan at West Ham United. After coming back to Paris, it’s clear PSG doesn’t see him in their future plans. Discussions are happening with different clubs. Soler is open to a transfer or a loan. La Liga teams like Villarreal and Atlético Madrid are interested, though Villarreal is having trouble meeting his salary demands due to financial issues. Some Premier League teams are also keeping an eye on him as the window closes. Soler has a contract with PSG until 2027, making a move tricky. But both Soler and PSG want to sort something out soon.

LOOKING AT THIS SEASON

PSG won the Ligue 1 title last season, finishing first with 84 points. However, Soler played only a few matches, making just 10 league appearances while with West Ham, with no goals or assists. PSG wants new players for the new season and selling Soler will help. Soler is seen as a creative midfielder with experience in Europe. Villarreal, who finished fifth in La Liga, will be in the Champions League. They could offer Soler a chance to work again with former Valencia coach Marcelino if they handle the salary issues. Atlético Madrid, who finished third in La Liga, is also a possible option. In England, some mid-table Premier League teams are watching his situation.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR SOLER AND PSG?

PSG opened their Ligue 1 campaign last week with a 1-0 win against Nantes, and will now be facing Angers for the 2nd match of the season. Villarreal and Atlético Madrid also have big starts in La Liga. Villarreal plays Girona on the 2nd match, having beaten Oviedo 2-0 in their opener, while Atlético faces Elche, having lost to Espanyol in their league opener. Both teams want to close the gap to the top. The transfer window is closing soon, so a decision about Soler is expected quickly. If he moves, he’ll hope to play regularly at his new club. Meanwhile, PSG will bring in new players as they aim for more trophies this season.
