Celtic Set to Land Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on Loan from Manchester City

Celtic are close to signing young defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey from Manchester City. The 19-year-old is set to join on loan until June 2026.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Celtic have agreed to bring Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on a season-long loan from Manchester City. The defender did well last season as captain of City’s U21 team. He led them to a fourth consecutive Premier League 2 title and won Player of the Year honors. Pep Guardiola has also seen his talent, giving him six first-team appearances. With Celtic needing more centre-backs after some left and others attracted transfers, Simpson-Pusey will be important for the squad before a challenging season.

WHY CELTIC MOVED QUICKLY

Celtic are eager to improve their defensive strength. The team lost Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki this summer, and Stephen Welsh may also move. Currently, Cameron Carter-Vickers is the main defender, but they need more players. Simpson-Pusey gives Brendan Rodgers a highly-rated young player. He will compete with Liam Scales and Auston Trusty for playing time. Celtic aim to win another Scottish Premiership after finishing first last season. They are also getting ready for European competitions. Their first game is soon, and they play Hibernian in three days.

WHAT NEXT?

Simpson-Pusey’s move should be done soon, and he could start training with Celtic this week. The team hopes he adjusts quickly before their first game. Celtic play Hibernian on August 2 to start the Scottish Premiership. Hibernian finished fifth last season. Celtic are favorites to win the title again, but Rangers and Hearts, who were close last season, are challengers. Celtic will also soon play in Champions League qualifiers. A strong defense will be important, so Simpson-Pusey’s quick impact is needed there too.
