Chelsea have another injury problem. Forward Christopher Nkunku will miss important games in the last weeks of the season.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Christopher Nkunku didn’t play in Chelsea’s game against Liverpool, which they won 3-1. Coach Enzo Maresca said Nkunku would be out for 10 to 15 days because of his injury. “I think one week, two weeks,” Maresca said. “He will be out for 10 days, 15 days.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Nkunku has had fitness problems all season. His injury is bad news for Chelsea. They are trying to finish in the top five in the Premier League to make the Champions League, and they are also playing in the Conference League. They are currently 1 point behind 3rd place Manchester City and 3 ahead of 7th place Aston Villa.
Chelsea have had fewer injuries in the squad recently. One of their key players returning, making Nkunku’s absence all the more disappointing. They will miss him during this crucial final stretch of games that will define their season.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR CHELSEA?
Without Nkunku, Chelsea have a tough schedule. They have Premier League games against Brentford, Manchester United, and Brighton. And they have to play in the Conference League. If Nkunku returns as expected, he should be fit for Chelsea’s final game of the season against Brighton, which could be crucial for their European hopes. The Blues are currently fighting for a top-3 finish in the Premier League,
There are also rumors that this might be Nkunku’s only season at Stamford Bridge. Reports say he could leave this summer. If he takes longer to recover, he may have already played his last game for Chelsea.
