Chelsea Push to Sign Facundo Buonanotte in Big Transfer Move
Chelsea have begun discussions with Brighton to sign Argentine midfielder Facundo Buonanotte. Several clubs in England and Europe are also interested in him.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Chelsea have started talks with Brighton to try and sign Facundo Buonanotte before the transfer window closes. The 20-year-old is highly rated and played for Leicester City on loan last season, appearing in 31 league matches and scoring five goals in the Premier League, as he impressed throughout the campaign. Leeds United and West Ham United were leading the race for the Argentina youth international earlier, but Chelsea appear to be preparing an offer to sign the player outright, with Borussia Dortmund and Lyon also interested in a move. Notably, Buonanotte is not included in Brighton’s squad as he finalizes his transfer, indicating that this deal could become one of the last major moves of the summer window as clubs finalize their squads .
CHELSEA’S SEASON SO FAR
Chelsea are currently fourth on the Premier League table, having collected four points from two matches with one win and one draw. Their new midfield signings, including Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, have helped improve performances, but creativity and depth in attack remain issues. Buonanotte’s dribbling and vision make him a key part of Chelsea’s plans to address these problems by adding another attacking midfielder to their ranks. His parent club, Brighton & Hove Albion, are 10th in the league, having only collected one win and two draws across their opening five games.
WHAT’S NEXT?
Barring any unexpected developments, Chelsea will continue to work on completing Buonanotte’s transfer before the transfer window closes. Their next Premier League fixture is against Fulham, who are in the lower half, two points behind Chelsea. Marco Silva’s men need a victory against their rivals to close the gap to the top six as they aim for the European qualification spots. Brighton, on the other hand, faces West Ham United in the league as they too look to climb up from mid-table.
