Chelsea Reject Borussia Dortmund Bid for Carney Chukwuemeka

Chelsea have rejected Borussia Dortmund’s offer for Carney Chukwuemeka. The German team’s proposal, involving a loan with an obligation to buy, was labeled “insulting” by Chelsea. Several clubs are interested in Chukwuemeka for a permanent transfer, increasing competition in the summer window.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Borussia Dortmund proposed a loan move for Chukwuemeka, with an obligation to buy for just over £15 million. Chelsea swiftly turned down the offer, expressing their displeasure at the financial terms, especially since other clubs have offered options for a direct sale. While Chukwuemeka, 22, gained experience and enhanced his reputation in the Bundesliga during his loan spell, Chelsea is now willing to sell him in a permanent transfer as they value him at €40 million.

CHELSEA’S SEASON SO FAR

Chelsea’s summer has been pivotal as they look to reshape their squad following a successful 2024/25 campaign, in which they finished fourth in the Premier League and reached Champions League qualification, as they also won both the Club World Cup and the Conference League. Chukwuemeka made 26 appearances last season, scoring three goals and providing two assists. With multiple suitors interested, Chelsea are focused on securing the best deal for the club and are reluctant to sign a loan deal with a low guaranteed fee. Reports indicate that the club will only sell Chukwuemeka in a permanent transfer this summer to ensure they receive proper value.

WHAT NEXT FOR CHUKWUEMEKA AND CHELSEA?

Chelsea are set to begin their Premier League season next weekend against FA Cup and Community Shield winners Crystal Palace, with the goal of closing the gap on teams like Liverpool and Manchester City who finished above them. Borussia Dortmund, who finished fourth in the Bundesliga last season, are also rebuilding after losing key players. Discussions regarding Chukwuemeka’s future are expected to continue in the coming weeks as interest from other clubs grows. For the time being, Chelsea are standing firm, awaiting offers that match their valuation of the young English midfielder.
