Chelsea Remain Without Lavia And Badiashile For Brentford Clash

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca says Romeo Lavia and Benoit Badiashile are still unavailable for selection, even though they have returned to training. Both players are close to making their comeback but will not feature against Brentford this weekend.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Romeo Lavia and Benoit Badiashile have joined Chelsea’s first-team training this week after recovering from muscle injuries. Their progress has lifted spirits at the club, with both expected to be available soon. However, Maresca stated that neither player is ready for match action yet. They will miss the upcoming West London derby at the Gtech Community Stadium. Reports indicate that their possible return date is set for September 24, when Chelsea face Lincoln City in the EFL Cup.

CHELSEA’S CURRENT SITUATION

Chelsea have made a strong start to the Premier League season, collecting eight points from four matches and sitting in the European spots after conceding a last minute draw at Brenford as they were leading 2-1. The Blues hope to continue their unbeaten run when they face Bayern Munich away from home for the Champions League opener ahead of their visit to Old Trafford to face Manchester United. The absence of Lavia and Badiashile leaves Maresca with fewer defensive options. Furthermore, Chelsea are facing problems in defence after losing key defender Levi Colwill to what is thought to be a serious knee injury, which could impact their overall performance.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Chelsea’s last matc ended in a draw to Brentford in the Premier League. Brentford are currently in 10th place and will be looking for a first home win of the campaign. After the derby, Chelsea’s focus turns to the EFL Cup fixture against Lincoln City, which could see Lavia and Badiashile finally make their return. With ongoing injuries to Levi Colwill and others, all the returning players could be crucial for Chelsea as they aim to strengthen their squad for a busy run of fixtures.
