Chelsea Will Not Sell Enzo Fernandez Despite Real Madrid’s Interest
Chelsea have stated their position clearly regarding midfielder Enzo Fernandez, even as interest from Real Madrid reportedly grows. The London club insists they have no plans to sell the Argentine international, with the Blues viewing Fernandez as a key part of their future.
CHELSEA: FERNANDEZ NOT FOR SALE
Chelsea are determined to keep Fernandez despite suggestions that Real Madrid are interested in trying to sign him. The 24-year-old midfielder joined from Benfica in January 2023 for a then-British record fee of £106.8 million ($143 million) and is under contract until 2032. Chelsea have reportedly issued a firm statement ensuring Fernandez is not for sale at any price, believing him to be a leader in the dressing room and central to their future plans.
FERNANDEZ’S IMPACT
Fernandez has been a key figure in this season’s campaign, scoring seven goals and picking up 12 assists in 42 appearances. His contributions have helped drive Chelsea up to fifth in the Premier League table, with the chance of Champions League football still possible as they face Nottingham Forest on Sunday in their last match of the season.
His midfield presence has also been important as the team has moved into the Conference League final, giving them a chance of silverware this season alongside their push for European qualification.
REAL MADRID INTEREST
Reports have suggested Madrid are keen on Fernandez as part of their plans to strengthen their midfield. Negotiations were allegedly “advanced”, while some reports claimed the transfer was “80% likely” to happen.
However, more reliable sources, including BBC Sport, have indicated there is no suggestion Chelsea would even consider selling their prized asset. If they did entertain a deal, the club would demand significantly more than the £106.8 million they paid Benfica – a figure that might not be possible even for Madrid.
WHAT’S NEXT?
Chelsea face Nottingham Forest in their final Premier League match on Sunday with the team hoping Champions League qualification is still possible. The Blues’ summer transfer strategy is reportedly likely to hang on whether they finish in the top four.
Fernandez, who earns an average annual salary of $15.47 million on his nine-year contract, will likely remain at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea look to build around their core players. The club appears determined to resist any approaches for their midfield star, viewing him as central to their ambitions under manager Enzo Maresca.
