Chiesa Opens Up on Juventus Departure: “Thiago Motta Didn’t Want Me”
Federico Chiesa has revealed why he left Juventus. He says new head coach Thiago Motta told him he wasn’t part of the club’s plans. Now at Liverpool, Chiesa says he could see himself returning to Juventus, even though he’s not playing much at his current club.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Chiesa departed Juventus in summer 2024 after Motta informed him he needed to find another club. He eventually joined Liverpool but has struggled for game time in England. The 27-year-old has made just six Premier League appearances this season, only one of which was a start. Injuries, plus competition from Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo mean Chiesa has largely remained rooted to the bench at Anfield.
JUVENTUS STILL IN HIS HEART
Despite being shown the door by Juve, Chiesa spoke warmly of the club and refused to rule out a return. “Returning there one day? Why not…,” he said. Juventus, for their part, have continued to monitor their former star, and rumors have suggested the club would be open to bringing him back this summer, potentially on loan. His experience and quality would certainly be welcome in Turin as Massimiliano Allegri’s men look to compete for both domestic and European silverware in 2025-26.
WHAT NEXT FOR CHIESA AND HIS CLUBS?
It’s difficult to know what lies ahead for Chiesa. Liverpool sit top of the Premier League and were recently crowned winter champions, but he continues to struggle for game time under Javier González. Lazio, Napoli and Inter Milan are all believed to be monitoring his situation, while Juventus are reportedly keen to lure him back to Serie A too. Liverpool’s next match is in the Community Shield before they return to Premier League action. Meanwhile, Juventus have a blockbuster Supercoppa Italiana final against fierce rivals Inter Milan to look forward to later this month.
