Christopher Bonsu Baah Set for €15m Move to Al Qadsiah
Ghanaian winger Christopher Bonsu Baah is close to joining Al Qadsiah from Belgian side Genk in a deal worth €15 million. The transfer is expected to be finalized soon, marking one of Genk’s most significant sales in recent years.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Negotiations between Genk and Al Qadsiah are advanced, with the Saudi club ready to pay €15 million for the 20-year-old winger. Bonsu Baah joined Genk in 2023 from Sarpsborg and quickly became a regular, making 90 appearances, scoring 5 goals, and providing 7 assists across all competitions. Although he signed a contract until 2028, Genk decided to cash in after the winger’s strong performances attracted interest from Saudi Arabia. He is expected to sign a deal until 2030 and could travel to Saudi Arabia in the coming days to complete the move.
IMPACT ON BOTH CLUBS
This transfer brings a significant financial boost to Genk, who initially paid just over €5 million for Bonsu Baah. For Al Qadsiah, who finished fourth in the Saudi Pro League last season, this is part of an ambitious effort to strengthen their squad and challenge for top honors domestically and in Asia. Bonsu Baah’s pace and versatility on the wing are seen as crucial for Al Qadsiah’s rise as they finished just behind Al Ittihad, Al Hilal, and Al Nassr in the league standings. Meanwhile, Genk will need to replace one of their brightest young talents as they aim to build on their previous campaign in Belgium.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR BONSU BAAH AND HIS NEW CLUB?
Bonsu Baah is expected to complete his medical and officially sign his new contract in the coming days. Al Qadsiah are preparing for the 2025-26 Saudi Pro League season, hoping Bonsu Baah can help them improve on last year’s fourth-place finish and close the gap to the top three. Their next match is scheduled for early August against Al Hilal, who won the league in the previous campaign. Meanwhile, Genk are set to begin preseason without their young star and will be looking at replacements ahead of the new Belgian Pro League season, where they finished in 3rd place, behing Club Brugge and champions USG.
