Christopher Nkunku: “I Said Yes to AC Milan Immediately”

French forward Christopher Nkunku felt special when AC Milan first contacted him about a transfer. He accepted immediately after hearing about the club’s project. Nkunku joined from Chelsea and is set to play a big part in Milan’s future as they look to return to the top of Italian football. According to reports, Nkunku is seen as a key addition for AC Milan’s ambitions in Serie A and Europe.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Christopher Nkunku transferred from Chelsea to AC Milan in August for €37 million plus €5 million in add-ons, as confirmed by AC Milan’s official announcement. The 27-year-old attacker signed a contract at San Siro until June 2030. After disappointing spells with injury at Chelsea, Nkunku told Milan’s official media the first call from Milan was “special.” He agreed immediately, only asking to learn about the club’s plans. This decision marks the start of a new chapter for the French international, who will wear the number 18 shirt for Milan. In his Chelsea career, Nkunku scored 18 goals in 62 games, including important goals in Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League and Club World Cup campaigns last season.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Nkunku’s arrival at AC Milan is major as the team looks to bounce back after missing out on the Serie A title last season. Milan finished eighth in Serie A, failing to reach the European spots. Additionally, the club exited the Champions League at the group stage but reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League. With Nkunku, who scored 15 goals in his last season at Chelsea despite injuries, Milan hope to add goals and creativity to their attack. The forward also brings experience from top leagues and European competition, adding depth to a team in transition.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR MILAN AND NKUNKU?

AC Milan aim to narrow the gap to title contenders as the new Serie A season continues. Their next match is a home fixture against Bologna, who finished just one spot behind Milan last year in ninth place and are direct rivals for a European spot, as well as the current Coppa Italia title holders, beating AC Milan in the final. Nkunku is expected to make his debut in this important game, offering fans a glimpse of what he can bring to Massimiliano Allegri’s side. Milan are in mid-table in Serie A with three points from their first two games, making every match crucial early in the campaign as they chase their first Scudetto since 2022.
