Como President: Messi Transfer to Italy “Impossible”

Como’s president Mirwan Suwarso has ended speculation about Lionel Messi joining the Italian club, calling the idea “not even a dream, it’s just impossible” in a statement to Sky.

WHAT SPARKED THE RUMORS?

Rumors about Messi possibly signing with Como grew after his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, was seen at a friendly match between Como and Lille. The speculation gained pace when Cesc Fàbregas, Como’s coach and Messi’s former teammate at Barcelona, commented jokingly about a reunion. These stories quickly spread among fans and the media, raising hopes that the world champion might move to Serie A.

CLUB’S CLEAR RESPONSE

Mirwan Suwarso responded directly to these rumors, stating, “It’s not even a dream, it’s just impossible.” The club made their position clear and shut down all talk of a Messi transfer. This comes as Como recently secured promotion to Serie A for the first time in more than 20 years. Expectations are high for the club, which finished 10th in Serie A last season under manager Cesc Fabregas, and will compete among Italy’s best teams in 2025-26 for a spot in European football next season.

LOOKING AHEAD: COMO’S CHALLENGE IN SERIE A

Como’s focus will be on building a competitive squad for their second Serie A season since 2003. Their opening match is set to be against Lazio, who finished 7th last season, level on points with Fiorentina, which was the last team to get qualified for European football last season. With a tough fight expected for the European spots, Como’s main aim is to qualify for competitions that will bring it more visibility, and revenue for next season. Meanwhile, Lionel Messi continues his journey in the United States with Inter Miami, where he is currently suspended for missing the All-Star Game and will miss Inter Miami’s game against FC Cincinnati, as reported recently by sources. Como fans will have to set their hopes elsewhere as the club prepares to face top-flight football without the Argentine legend.
