Cristhian Mosquera Chooses Arsenal After Rejecting Serie A Move

Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera is about to join Arsenal. He has rejected a new contract with his current club and a big offer from Italy. The young Spanish centre-back stated he wanted to join the Premier League side from the start of the transfer window.

According to a previous report, Cristhian Mosquera is close to signing with Arsenal from Valencia.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Mosquera turned down Valencia’s new deal and a strong proposal from a Serie A side to secure his desired move to Arsenal. The Gunners have agreed a fee with Valencia, reportedly £13 million plus add-ons, with personal terms negotiated for a five-year deal. The Spain youth international is set to arrive in England for a medical and to complete his move, with Arsenal hoping he will join them on their pre-season tour to Asia, which starts on Saturday. Mosquera, now 21, played 37 La Liga games for Valencia in 2024-25, cementing his reputation as a rising star in Spanish football.

A previous report confirmed that Cristhian Mosquera played almost every game for Valencia last season.

He has said goodbye to his teammates and fans, admitting he is sad to leave the only club he has known, but excited for this new step.

ARSENAL’S SUMMER PLANS AND SQUAD BUILDING

This deal is part of a busy transfer window for Arsenal, who are on the verge of completing moves for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres and Chelsea winger Noni Madueke. Last season, Arsenal finished second in the Premier League for a second successive year, agonisingly behind Liverpool.

A previous report confirmed that Arsenal finished second in the Premier League last season with 70 points.

Manager Mikel Arteta is aiming to strengthen their ranks further as Arsenal seek to win their first league title since 2004. Mosquera is expected to provide important cover and competition for first-choice centre-backs William Saliba and Gabriel. His capture will edge Arsenal’s summer spending towards £200 million.

WHAT COMES NEXT?

Mosquera is expected to complete his transfer in the next 48 hours and join his new teammates for the tour to Singapore and Hong Kong. Arsenal begin their 2025-26 Premier League season next month and will be determined to build on last season’s progress. Meanwhile, Valencia—who finished 8th in La Liga—now have to find a replacement for one of their most dependable defenders.

A previous report confirmed that Valencia finished ninth in La Liga last season.

Arsenal’s first pre-season fixture is against Singapore XI, while league rivals Manchester City open their tour the same weekend. The Gunners remain focused on closing the gap to the top, with Mosquera’s arrival evidence of their commitment to long-term squad renewal and immediate success.
