Cristian Chivu Appointed as New Inter Milan Head Coach Until 2027

Inter Milan have named Cristian Chivu as their new manager. Chivu, a former Inter defender, has signed a contract until June 2027. He leaves Parma to lead Inter, returning to the club where he had great success as a player.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Cristian Chivu will be the new head coach of Inter, signing a two-year deal to replace Simone Inzaghi. Negotiations with Cesc Fabregas fell through earlier in the day, and Inter turned their attention to Chivu. Chivu departs Parma after overseeing an impressive spell with the Serie A side, opting to return home to Inter in terms of his professional career.

Chivu knows the club well from his playing days, having won multiple trophies as part of Inter’s treble-winning squad nearly 20 years ago. He will look to achieve the same success now as a coach.

THE CONTEXT: INZAGHI’S EXIT AND INTER’S SEASON

Chivu replaces Inzaghi after the manager departed Inter following a very disappointing result in the Champions League final Monday. Inter were thoroughly defeated by PSG, losing 5-0 as the French giants claimed their first-ever Champions League title.

Inzaghi had loved his time at Inter and was sad to depart, but understood the direction of the club and was aware his time was up. He leaves Inter after five-and-a-half years at the helm, but departs without a trophy in three years. He is now set to link up with Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, where he is expected to replace Pep Guardiola.

LOOKING AHEAD: CHIVU’S CHALLENGES AND INTER’S NEXT FIXTURE

The team will also aim to close the gap on Juventus as they begin the new campaign, with their opening match scheduled against Atalanta, who finished third last season and will provide a stern test. Attention will be on how Chivu implements his vision and whether he can bring fresh energy to a squad still featuring many title-winning veterans. Inter fans will be eager to see how quickly Chivu can translate his love for the club into success on the pitch.
