Cristian Chivu Set to Become Inter Milan’s Next Head Coach

Cristian Chivu is almost ready to sign a two-year deal to become Inter Milan’s new head coach. He is just waiting for the club’s official confirmation before signing.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Chivu, who once played for Inter Milan and coached their youth teams, traveled to Milan with his agent to finalize his agreement as head coach. The deal is for two years, with a possible extension until 2027, and a yearly salary of two million euros. He will replace Simone Inzaghi, who is expected to join Al Hilal. Chivu is currently coaching Parma, with a contract until June 2026, but Inter chose him after other candidates declined the role.

CHIVU’S SPECIAL CONNECTION WITH INTER

Chivu is a legend at Inter Milan. He played over 160 games for the club from 2007 to 2014, winning several major trophies. After retiring, he coached various Inter youth teams, including their Primavera side, before taking a head coach role in Serie A with Parma. Though his results as a head coach have been mixed, Chivu showed tactical skills by achieving three wins, seven draws, and three losses in Serie A. His deep connection with Inter and experience with the club’s youth system have made him a popular choice among supporters and the board.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR INTER AND CHIVU?

Inter Milan is coming off another strong season, having finished near the top of Serie A and securing Champions League qualification. The club’s immediate focus will be on officially announcing Chivu’s appointment so he can lead preparations for the upcoming campaign. Inter is scheduled to play newly-promoted Como in their first league match of the 2025-26 season—an early test as they look to challenge for the title again. Chivu’s arrival brings fresh optimism to the club, as fans hope his deep ties and experience can keep Inter competing with rivals like Juventus and AC Milan at the summit of Italian football.
