Cristian Romero Set to Stay at Spurs as New Season Approaches

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has confirmed that Cristian “Cuti” Romero will stay at the club for the next Premier League season. The Argentine defender has been involved in transfer talks all summer but is now likely to play an important role for the team under their new head coach. Romero is key to Tottenham’s future plans and is not for sale this summer.

WHAT HAPPENED?

There have been rumors that Romero might leave Tottenham, with Atlético Madrid very interested and talk of his being unhappy with management and injuries last season. Despite having only two years left on his contract and Atlético manager Diego Simeone publicly admiring him, Spurs have refused to sell him for less than £60 million. Manager Thomas Frank reassured fans by saying, “He’s definitely here and very committed. I know he’s looking forward to the season.” This statement ends weeks of uncertainty as Romero gets ready for preseason with Spurs after Tottenham refused to start talks for Cristian Romero‘s transfer.

ROMERO’S IMPORTANCE TO SPURS

Romero has become a key part of Tottenham’s defense since he joined in 2022. He was a major factor in the team’s attempt to qualify for Europe last season. Despite a tough year filled with injuries and coaching changes, mainly the departure of Ange Postecoglou, Romero performed well and helped Spurs finish 17th in the Premier League but, more importantly, winning the Europa League and being named the player of the match in the final. He played more than 3,000 minutes in the Premier League last season and scored four goals, making several important defensive plays.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR TOTTENHAM?

Spurs will start their Premier League season at home against Burnley, who was promoted from the Championship last season. Keeping Romero is a big advantage as they aim to improve on last year and compete for a Champions League spot. The club is still looking for new players, but Frank’s determination to keep Romero shows Spurs want to hold onto their best talent. All eyes will be on White Hart Lane as Romero gets ready to lead the defense in a new era under Thomas Frank.
