Croatian Prospect Borna Knezović Joins Salernitana on Loan from Sassuolo

Croatian midfielder Borna Knezović is moving on loan from Sassuolo to Salernitana for the season. The 20-year-old, who is seen as a top talent, hopes to play more regularly for the 2025/26 season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Salernitana and Sassuolo have agreed to a one-year loan deal for Knezović. The young player, born in 2005, is highly rated in Croatia and abroad. He joins Salernitana for the whole season. They hope he will play more first-team football and show his abilities in the Serie B for the rest of the season, as Sassuolo will be oving up to the Serie A this season.

KNEZOVIĆ’S CURRENT FORM AND DEVELOPMENT

Knezović came up through the Sassuolo youth system after moving from Croatia in 2022. Last season, he played for Sassuolo’s U19 team and was near the first team but didn’t play much in Serie A. He is known for his calmness in midfield and his passing vision. He has also played for Croatia’s national youth teams.

SALERNITANA’S OUTLOOK AND UPCOMING FIXTURES

Salernitana are trying to recover from a difficult 2024/25 season when they were relegated to Serie B. Notably, Sassuolo was in the Serie B and managed to get promoted to the Serie A last season, which highlights the challenging environment in Italian football. With Knezović on the team, Salernitana aims to add creativity and energy. They begin the season against Bari, who finished mid-table last year. Salernitana wants to get back to Serie A quickly and hopes Knezović will help their midfield. Their next game is important as they want to gain momentum against league rivals.
