Darwin Nunez is likely to leave Liverpool at the end of the season. The Uruguayan striker wants a fresh start after a tough year at Anfield. Liverpool rejected a big offer from Al Nassr in January, but a summer move now seems possible.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica in 2022 but hasn’t secured the main striker role. Since Arne Slot became manager, Nunez has often been behind Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, and Cody Gakpo. The 25-year-old has scored seven goals and provided five assists in 42 games this season, which is below expectations for the club’s No. 9.

Reports suggest both Liverpool and Nunez are ready to separate. This comes after Liverpool turned down Al Nassr’s offer in the winter transfer window. Now, a transfer appears likely once the season ends.

LIVERPOOL’S SEASON AND FUTURE PLANS

Liverpool are in a tight race for the Premier League title, currently at the top as the season nears its end. The inconsistency in the striker role has made Liverpool think about changing things up front. Manager Arne Slot has rotated Nunez, Jota, and Diaz without finding a regular goalscorer. With Nunez likely on the transfer list, Liverpool plan to use the money from his sale to buy a new centre forward and strengthen their attack for the 2025–26 season.

WHAT NEXT FOR NUNEZ AND LIVERPOOL?

After the final Premier League games, including a crucial match against Leicester, attention will shift to summer transfers. Saudi Arabia’s interest could speed up Nunez’s exit, but European clubs may also bid for him. For Liverpool, finding a new striker will be a top priority to remain competitive. They are closely watching Manchester City and Arsenal in the standings, with only a slight lead in the title race’s final weekend. Replacing Nunez effectively will be key for Liverpool’s ambitions next season, both domestically and in European competitions.
