Darwin Nunez Shines in Pre-Season as Talks With Al Hilal Advance

Darwin Nunez scored again for Liverpool in pre-season, impressing the staff and the fans alike with his attitude as well as performance. At the same time, Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal entered talks with the striker’s representatives to try and complete a transfer ahead of several interested European teams. According to reports, Nunez is in discussions with Al Hilal regarding a transfer.

NUÑEZ SCORES AS LIVERPOOL’S PRE-SEASON HEATS UP

Nunez netted a goal in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Athletic Club in a preparation match at Anfield. The goals came within the first 20 minutes of the game as the Reds continued their winning run in pre-season friendlies. This fine recent form caps a difficult period for Nunez, who made 57 appearances during last season, scoring 11 goals and assisting 7 as Arne Slot’s side finished as Premier League champions with 84 points.

AL HILAL STEP UP EFFORTS TO SIGN NUÑEZ

Al Hilal have been in contact with Nunez’s representatives to reach an agreement on personal terms which would allow them to finalize a deal before any European club such as AC Milan swoops in with their own offers. Al Hilal, last season’s Saudi Pro League runner-ups behind Al Ittihad, are keen to add Nunez as a marquee signing, as they have officially presented a contract offer to him. Reports state that Liverpool are reportedly asking for around £43 million, which is far below the £85 million they initially paid for the striker as negotiations are advanced.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL AND NUÑEZ?

Liverpool continue their pre-season tour in Asia, with their next game scheduled against Borussia Dortmund. The Reds will look to target a similar finish as Slot’s side finished as champions last season—ten points ahead of Arsenal. If Al Hilal finalize a deal worth £43 million, Liverpool may have to enter the market for a new striker. As for Nunez, he faces a decision: move to Saudi Arabia for a lucrative contract or stay back and fight for a place in European football next season.
