David Datro Fofana Moves to Fatih Karagümrük on Loan from Chelsea

David Datro Fofana, a young player from Chelsea, has joined Turkish club Fatih Karagümrük on loan for the 2025/26 season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The 22-year-old Fofana moved to Fatih Karagümrük on loan. Last season, he played for another Turkish club, Göztepe, scoring two goals in nine matches. Fofana joined Chelsea from Molde in January 2023. However, he made only four appearances for Chelsea before being loaned out to Union Berlin and Burnley. While playing for Burnley, he managed to find the net four times in 15 Premier League games.

Fofana is hoping to gain more first-team experience in the Turkish Süper Lig. Fatih Karagümrük is looking for new attacking players after a difficult season last year.

KARAGÜMRÜK’S SEASON AT A GLANCE

Fatih Karagümrük finished near the bottom of the Süper Lig standings in the 2024/25 season, barely avoiding relegation. They struggled with scoring and consistency, which is why they are keen on adding new attacking options like Fofana.

Currently, Karagümrük is just above the relegation zone, only two points away from danger. They are preparing for a local derby against Istanbulspor, who are also fighting to stay above the relegation line. A win could help Karagümrük rise in the standings and create more distance from their rivals at the bottom.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR FOFANA AND CHELSEA?

This loan deal gives Fofana another opportunity to play regularly after limited chances at Chelsea. His contract with Chelsea runs until 2027, and the club is trying to support his development. Recently, Chelsea started the 2025/26 Premier League season well, currently sitting in second place after three matches. Performing well in Turkey could boost Fofana’s confidence and enhance his chances of either returning to Chelsea or securing a permanent transfer.

For Fatih Karagümrük, Fofana’s speed and energy could be essential in their fight to avoid relegation this season.
