Devis Vasquez Signs as New Backup Goalkeeper for AS Roma

AS Roma have signed Devis Vasquez as their new backup goalkeeper. The Colombian joins the team after leaving AC Milan.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Vasquez comes to Roma as a free agent after ending his contract with AC Milan. He didn’t play for Milan since joining in January 2023 and went on loan to several clubs. Roma have now completed his signing to back up Mile Svilar.

WHY ROMA MADE THE MOVE

Roma needed a dependable backup for their goalkeeper Mile Svilar. After his loan at Empoli, where he sat on the bench as the team got relegated, Vasquez returned to Milan, who terminated his contract to allow him more opportunities elsewhere. He was quickly snapped up by Gian Piero Gasperini for squad depth, allowing the former Atalanta manager to take a closer look at Gollini.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR VASQUEZ AND ROMA?

Vasquez will serve as a backup but could play in Coppa Italia or European games. Roma’s first Serie A match is against Bologna, who were 9th last year. Roma want to improve their position and aim for the Champions League spots, which they missed on the last matchday last season. Vasquez hopes to help Roma in the season ahead.
