Douglas Luiz on Verge of Nottingham Forest Move as Deal Nears Completion

Nottingham Forest are close to signing Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz from Juventus. All parties are confident the transfer will be announced soon.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Nottingham Forest have agreed on personal terms with Douglas Luiz. He is set to return to the Premier League after a tough season at Juventus. Forest reportedly offered €30 million (£26.5m/$32.9), a figure that Juventus are happy with as they aim to streamline their squad before the new season. While some other English clubs, including West Ham and Everton, showed interest, Forest are leading the race and finalising the transfer fees of the player with his current club Juventus, with a deal expected to be completed in the coming days.

WHY ARE FOREST MAKING THIS MOVE?

Forest are making late changes to their squad after a successsful 2024/25 campaign, where they managed to qualify for the Conference League. Luiz is a player they believe can strengthen that area. The Brazilian had prior Premier League experience during his time at Aston Villa, and his technical skills and work rate are highly valued by Forest. The club have also completed several exciting signings this summer, including Arnaud Kalimuendo and Omari Hutchinson, indicating their intent of becoming more competitive this campaign.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR NOTTINGHAM FOREST AND LUIZ?

This transfer is expected to be completed before the start of the new Premier League season, as Forest prepare to face Brentford in a crucial opening fixture for both sides, who would want to avoid a slow start to the campaign. Forest remain focused on building a squad that would allow them to be more secure in the league, and perform well in their European presence. Luiz, who pushed for a return to England and refused to resume pre-season at Juve amid the possibility of his exit, could be available for selection straight away and is expected to feature in a central role for Forest.
