Eldor Shomurodov Set for Başakşehir Switch in €3m Loan Move from AS Roma
Uzbekistan striker Eldor Shomurodov is close to joining Turkish club İstanbul Başakşehir from AS Roma. It’s a season-long loan with a buy clause and sell-on rights for the Italian side.
WHAT ARE THE DEAL TERMS?
Başakşehir and AS Roma agreed on a loan deal for Shomurodov with a €3 million fee. There’s also a €2.7 million commitment to buy at the end of the season. Roma will receive a 10% share if Başakşehir sells him later. The forward will sign a two-year contract with an optional third year. Final paperwork and official confirmation will happen soon.
WHY THIS MOVE, AND WHAT’S HIS RECORD?
Shomurodov, 30, leaves Roma after 85 appearances, scoring 13 goals and providing 11 assists since joining from Genoa in 2021. Last season, he netted 7 goals with 5 assists in 37 matches for the Giallorossi. Roma initially spent €17.5-20 million for him, but his role reduced with more competition in attack. Başakşehir, who finished 6th in the 2024/25 Süper Lig, are strengthening to push for European qualification next season.
According to a previous report, AS Roma finished the 2024/25 season with a top-five finish and Champions League qualification.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR BOTH CLUBS?
Başakşehir’s next match is the opening round of the 2025/26 Süper Lig season, where they hope Shomurodov boosts their attack. They start behind last season’s top five and aim for Champions League spots. For Roma, letting Shomurodov go frees space and funds as they rebuild after missing Serie A’s top four in 2024/25. Both sides now focus on preseason preparations and possible transfers.
