Eric Dier Joins AS Monaco from Bayern Munich on Three-Year Deal
English defender Eric Dier has officially moved to AS Monaco from Bayern Munich. He signed a three-year contract that will keep him at the Ligue 1 club until June 2028.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Monaco have confirmed the signing of Eric Dier, who will join the club on July 1, 2025, when his current deal with Bayern Munich expires. The 31-year-old English defender has agreed to a three-year contract with Monaco, committing his future to the Principality club until June 30, 2028.
Dier’s move comes after a successful 18-month spell in Germany, where he made 27 appearances for Bayern Munich. He scored three goals and provided one assist while helping the club win the Bundesliga title.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Dier’s move to Monaco is another chapter in his career that has seen him play across Europe. Before joining Bayern in January 2024, the defender spent over nine seasons at Tottenham Hotspur after arriving from Portuguese club Sporting in 2014/15. He recently won the Bundesliga title – his first trophy as a professional footballer.
Monaco hope Dier’s experience and skill will strengthen their defense as they aim to win titles in Ligue 1. Monaco currently sit second in the Ligue 1 standings with three matches left in the 2024-25 season. They are five points behind leaders PSG and three points ahead of third-placed Marseille. Dier’s arrival could provide the defensive stability needed to mount a stronger title challenge next season.
WHAT DIER SAID
Dier expressed his excitement about the new challenge. “I can’t wait to get started,” said the defender after Monaco confirmed his signing. The former England international, who represented his country 49 times from 2015 to 2022, will be looking forward to making an immediate impact when he officially joins the club this summer.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR DIER?
Before joining Monaco, Dier will complete the current season with Bayern Munich. He has been an important figure for the team, starting 13 out of his 18 Bundesliga appearances this campaign. Series of injuries and a lack of fitness have kept him on the sidelines but the defender will be hoping to finish his time in Germany on a high note before shifting to Ligue 1.
Monaco will face Strasbourg next as they look to secure a Champions League spot for next season. It is a competition Dier would undoubtedly be keen to participate in with his new club.
