Erik ten Hag Agrees to Bayer Leverkusen Offer as Club Awaits Final Decision

Erik ten Hag has agreed to a two-year contract with Bayer Leverkusen. He is now waiting for the club to decide as they consider other candidates for the head coach job.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Bayer Leverkusen started serious talks with Erik ten Hag after their coach, Xabi Alonso, left for Real Madrid. Ten Hag, who left Manchester United in October 2024, wants to join Leverkusen even though Ajax is also interested in him. It’s now up to Leverkusen to choose from their list of candidates for the job.

LEVERKUSEN’S AMBITIONS AFTER ALONSO

Leverkusen finished second in the Bundesliga last season after winning the title unbeaten the year before with Xabi Alonso. The club aims to stay competitive in Germany and Europe for the 2025/26 season and the upcoming Club World Cup. Ten Hag, who won three Eredivisie titles with Ajax, is seen as a top choice for Leverkusen’s ambitious goals.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR LEVERKUSEN AND TEN HAG?

Leverkusen plans to decide by late May so the new manager can prepare for pre-season and the Club World Cup. They aim to build on their recent success and challenge Bayern Munich, who finished just four points ahead. Ten Hag, who managed 11 matches with Manchester United this season, is eager to get back to coaching and lead Leverkusen in domestic and international competitions next year.
