Erling Haaland Makes Champions League History with 50th Goal

Erling Haaland scored his 50th Champions League goal in just 49 matches, breaking another major record during Manchester City’s 2-0 victory over Napoli.

HAALAND’S HISTORIC NIGHT

Manchester City started their Champions League campaign with a strong 2-0 win over Napoli. Haaland’s powerful header from a Phil Foden cross broke the deadlock early in the second half.

With that goal, Haaland reached 50 goals in the Champions League after only 49 appearances, setting a new speed record in the competition.

Later in the match, Jérémy Doku added a well-taken second goal to seal the win for City and delight the home crowd.

IMPACT IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Few players have dominated the Champions League like Haaland. Reaching 50 goals in under 50 games puts him ahead of legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who needed many more matches to hit the same milestone. Haaland was a core part of Manchester City that clinched back-to-back league titles and won the Champions League in 2024, further solidifying his status in the sport.

His performance against Napoli underlined his importance, with his physical presence and finishing ability giving City an edge on big European nights.

MANCHESTER CITY’S NEXT CHALLENGE

Manchester City currently sit mid-table in the Premier League table, three points behind their next opponents Atsenal, who also won their Champions League opeenr by 2-0 at Athletic Club. Haaland has already scored 6 goals in the league this season and 1 now in Europe.

City will look to build on this perfect start in Europe and maintain pressure at the top of the league, while Haaland will aim to break more records with each match.
