Evan Ferguson Lands in Rome Ahead of AS Roma Move
Irish striker Evan Ferguson has arrived in Italy to complete his move from Brighton to AS Roma. The clubs have agreed on a season-long loan with a €40 million option to buy.
FERGUSON ARRIVES IN ROME FOR ROMA MOVE
Evan Ferguson, 20, landed in Rome on Sunday and is set to sign with AS Roma in Serie A. He joins from Brighton on an initial loan, with Roma having the option to make it permanent for €40 million. His arrival comes after an unsuccessful loan spell at West Ham, where he started only one game last season and didn’t score any goals. The deal should be done within the next 24 hours unless there’s a last-minute issue.
FERGUSON AND ROMA: WHAT IT MEANS
This move is important for both Ferguson and Roma. For Ferguson, it offers a new beginning after injuries and limited playing time last season affected his progress. Once one of the most promising young forwards in the Premier League, Ferguson will have the chance to develop under new Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who signed a three-year contract after Claudio Ranieri left. Roma finished fifth in Serie A last season, missing out on the Champions League. The club is reorganizing its attack and sees Ferguson as a key player in its plans.
WHAT’S AHEAD FOR ROMA AND FERGUSON
Once the paperwork and medical tests are completed, Ferguson is expected to join Roma’s preseason training. Roma start the new Serie A campaign against Bologna, who finished in 9th place last season but won the Coppa Italia against AC Milan in the final. After finishing fifth, Roma are aiming to return to the top four, having been only three points behind Atalanta last term. Ferguson’s adaptation and performance in Italy may influence whether Roma activate their purchase option next summer. Brighton, meanwhile, will observe closely as they consider their attacking prospects for the 2025/26 Premier League season.
