Everton Make Surprise Move for Jack Grealish Loan from Manchester City
Everton have begun talks with Manchester City about bringing Jack Grealish in on loan for the season. The Merseyside club hopes to sign the England winger to add a boost to their attacking options, but negotiations are at an early stage, with other clubs also interested.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Everton have made contact with Manchester City to request a straight loan deal for Jack Grealish for the 2025/26 campaign – and they are ready to pay a portion of the player’s huge salary. It is not clear at this stage how much City are willing to cover.
City, who paid £100 million to sign Grealish from Aston Villa in 2021, would likely prefer a permanent transfer but are open to a temporary switch later in the window. Grealish’s representatives have been made aware. Further talks will be required with no decisions made. Other clubs in the Premier League and Europe remain interested so the situation could develop.
EVERTON AND GREALISH FORM THIS SEASON
Grealish found himself on the periphery of the City squad last season and made only one Premier League start. The 29-year-old was also an unused substitute in the FA Cup final loss in May. He desperately wants regular football and is keen to push for a place in England’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Having finished 13th in the Premier League last season, Everton have full-backs James Justin and Nathaniel Phillips out injured. David Moyes desperately needs reinforcements and admires Grealish. As confirmed in a recent report, the Toffees scored just 38 goals in the league last term and are almost entirely reliant on Dwight McNeil for creativity on the top end of the pitch. Everton is looking to improve their squad after losing wingers Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom.
WHAT NEXT FOR BOTH CLUBS?
With the new season underway, a final decision on Grealish’s future is not imminent while Everton continue to discuss potential salary arrangements. City will start their campaign as contenders to the Premier League title, but Everton are targeting significant improvement and want to climb from the lower reaches of the table.
Grealish could already be drafted in as early as Everton’s clash with newly promoted Leeds United, with both teams likely aiming for the same objectives in the new season before their respective opening weekend fixtures. If an agreement can be reached with City, he could form an important part of Everton’s quest to climb the table, while City may still look to strengthen with new recruits before the window slams shut.
