FC Basel Sign Midfielder Andrej Bačanin from FK Čukarički

FC Basel have agreed to sign 18-year-old Serbian midfielder Andrej Bačanin from FK Čukarički. The transfer fee is €2.3 million, with an extra €700,000 possible in add-ons. This boosts Basel’s midfield for the new Swiss Super League season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Many clubs showed interest in Bačanin, including Celtic, Rangers, Ajax, and Udinese. Čukarički wanted €3 million, but agreed on a lower amount. Basel quickly signed the talented teenager, viewed as a top young Serbian talent. He has already played for Serbia’s U19 team. The move should be finalized soon, and Bačanin will join his new teammates before the league heats up.

WHAT IT MEANS FOR BASEL

Basel had another successful 2024/25 season, finishing as winners of the Swiss League and qualifying for the Champions League. They aim to rebuild with young talent and see Bačanin as a long-term key player. Bačanin impressed last season with Čukarički, showing maturity and vision. He was praised domestically and internationally. He’s expected to compete for a starting spot at Basel, where young players often become stars.

BAL’S NEXT FIXTURE AND SCENE-SETTING

Basel will next face Young Boys, who finished third last season. Bačanin’s performance could help Basel climb the standings and challenge for a European spot.
