FC Porto Keep Hopes Alive For Jakub Kiwior Signing

FC Porto plan to offer a new bid for Jakub Kiwior after Arsenal rejected their first one in July, according to reports. The Portuguese team wants to improve their defense before the summer transfer window closes and Kiwior is a main target.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Porto’s first offer for Kiwior was turned down in July, but they are set to try again this week. Kiwior’s future at Arsenal is unclear as several top Serie A sides like Inter Milan and Juventus have shown interest. While he is mainly a backup option, the Poland international finished the old season strongly and showed his value by getting ten straight starts after Gabriel Magalhaes was injured. Kiwior is said to want more regular playing time and is ready to leave London for new opportunities as many European clubs are interested in signing him.

PORTO’S AMBITIONS AND ARSENAL’S PLANS

FC Porto were third in the Primeira Liga standings and missed out on the title. The gap to the top two sides Sporting and Benfica is increasing faster than expected. For Arsenal, Kiwior’s contract runs until June 2028, and the minimum price set for his sale is at €20 million as they only want a permanent sale. However, if both Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko leave the Emirates, the Gunners would have to bring in another defender to reinforce their backline before the window closes.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR KIWIOR AND THE TEAMS?

Porto are expected to send the new bid in the coming days. If Arsenal accept, Kiwior will be allowed to leave for a big fee. For Arsenal, they face Liverpool, the current title holders at Anfield, and a replacement would become important considering the competition. For Porto, signing Kiwior would add experience and boost their push for top two spots in the league and also help them compete for domestic silverware.
