FC Porto Open Talks With Ajax Over Kenneth Taylor Transfer
FC Porto have formally started negotiations with Ajax for the signing of midfielder Kenneth Taylor, submitting an official bid to bring the Dutch international to Portugal this summer.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Porto have made Kenneth Taylor a top target following the arrival of Francesco Farioli as their new head coach. Farioli is keen to reunite with Taylor, whom he managed during his brief stint at Ajax last season. While Porto have submitted an official offer for Taylor, Ajax have set a high asking price, reportedly demanding at least €30 million for the midfielder. Taylor’s strong performances, including nine goals and six assists in last year’s Eredivisie campaign, have increased his value as Ajax look to raise funds and adjust their wage structure.
Francesco Farioli is the head coach of FC Porto according to a previous report.
WHY AJAX ARE CONSIDERING A SALE
Ajax’s new technical director has revamped the club’s salary policies, but Taylor remains on an “old” contract—one the club is eager to move on from. With just two years left on his deal, Ajax want to avoid losing the 23-year-old for less next summer. Financial pressures and a broader squad overhaul make Taylor one of the key candidates for an exit this transfer window.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR PORTO AND AJAX?
Negotiations will likely continue as Porto try to close the gap in valuation for Taylor. Porto are preparing for a UEFA Champions League playoff tie in August, hoping to secure a spot in the group stage after finishing third in last season’s Primeira Liga according to a previous report. Ajax, who finished third in the Eredivisie last season and missed out on Champions League football, are also seeking new signings and will need to sell key assets like Taylor and Brian Brobbey before incoming transfers can be finalized. Both clubs are keen to complete business before their league campaigns kick off in early August.
