FC Porto Secure Full Ownership of Samu Omorodion from Atlético Madrid
FC Porto now fully own striker Samu Omorodion after buying the remaining economic rights from Atlético Madrid. The Portuguese club is now the sole owner of the Spanish forward’s contract.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Porto initially owned 65% of Omorodion’s rights after buying him for €15 million from Atlético Madrid in August 2024. The club has now exercised an option to buy an additional 15% for €5 million and negotiated another 20% for €7 million, bringing Porto’s total investment to €32 million. Porto now own 100% of the 21-year-old’s rights. He is under contract with Porto until 2029 with a €100 million release clause, which highlights his value to the club.
THE STRIKER’S IMPACT
Samu Omorodion has become a vital part of Porto’s attack. In the 2024/25 season, he scored 27 goals and provided 3 assists in 45 matches, establishing himself as one of the most prolific young forwards in Portugal. His performances have attracted interest from major European clubs, including PSG and Aston Villa, but Porto are determined to keep him as their main man moving forward. Omorodion earned individual accolades with his stunning performances, such as the Primeira Liga Player of the Month award in December 2024, and a gold medal with the Spain U23 team at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
WHAT COMES NEXT?
Porto’s full ownership of Omorodion comes ahead of a new season in which they want to reclaim the Primeira Liga title after finishing third in 2024/25. Their next match is a friendly before kicking out the league campaign in a few week’s time. Porto are determined to bridge the gap to champions Sporting, while also keeping fourth-place Braga, who finished three points behind them last season, at bay. Keeping hold of Omorodion will give Porto a boost as they aim for domestic glory and European progress.
