Federico Chiesa Says He Wants to Stay at Liverpool Amid Transfer Rumours

Federico Chiesa says he is “very happy at Liverpool” and wants to stay and fight for trophies. This is despite ongoing reports that he is set to leave Anfield. A recent report indicates that Chiesa is planning to leave Liverpool this summer in search of more playing time.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Chiesa told Skysports that he will soon speak with the club officials to determine his future, but insisted that he wants to stay and fight for Liverpool‘s badge. This comes after reports from TMWwatch that Liverpool are negotiating with Napoli over a loan move for the season, along with interest from other Italian clubs. Chiesa has had difficulty getting regular minutes this past season, making only 14 appearances in all competitions.

The former Fiorentina man was reduced to just 14 appearances in all competitions for his club last season, and in each one starting only once due to injuries and stiff competition from a star-studded roster that included the likes of Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez, both of whom have since left the club.

LIVERPOOL’S SEASON AND CHIESA’S ROLE

Arne Slot’s side were the undisputed winners of the Premier League title ahead of Arsenal by ten points. However, it was another frustrating campaign for Chiesa who managed just 41 minutes in the league and has not started a league match since joining the club from Fiorentina in the summer of 2024. As per a report, he is not part of Liverpool’s 29-man squad for the Asia pre-season tour, a decision attributed to fitness concerns, which has only fueled further speculation about his departure.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR CHIESA AND LIVERPOOL?

Liverpool’s next match is the Premier League 2nd match against Newcastle, after winning the opener thanks to a late goal by Chiesa to break the deadlock. Napoli, who finished as winners in Serie A last season, are eager to strengthen their squad with Antonio Conte hoping Chiesa will be just that. It remains to be seen if the winger/forward remains at Anfield, as Slot waits to see if the 26-year-old remains content with his lack of regular first-team action at the club, or returns to Italy in search of playing time.
