Federico Chiesa Set to Join Liverpool’s Champions League Squad

Liverpool will add Italian winger Federico Chiesa to their Champions League squad. Tournament rules allow the team to swap injured players.

LIVERPOOL’S SQUAD UPDATE

Italian defender Leoni is out with a long-term injury. So, Liverpool will register Federico Chiesa. Head coach Arne Slot said, “We have looked into this process, some people do this. If I am informed correctly, if a player is out for 2 months or more, can replace him. So we’re looking into it.” The club is now adding Chiesa as they aim to boost their attack for big games. This move follows the fact that Chiesa has been recalled to Liverpool’s Champions League squad after Leoni’s injury.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR LIVERPOOL’S SEASON

Liverpool have started the 2025/26 season well, both in the Premier League and Champions League. They’re top in the league, just three points ahead of 2nd place Crystal Palace. In the Champions League, they’ve won their first game against Atletico Madrid and are level on points with Real Madrid and other title contenders. Chiesa, who joined Liverpool last summer from Juventus, has already impacted the team with two goals in four league games, including his first Premier League goal scored during a 4-2 win over Bournemouth. He is showing signs that he could be key for the club in Europe.

LIVERPOOL’S UPCOMING FIXTURES

Next up for Liverpool is a Champions League match against Galatasaray, who lost their opener and will want to bounce back at home. After that, they play away against Chelsea in the Premier League. Chiesa’s involvement could be key as they try to secure early qualification for the knockout stages.

LOOKING AHEAD

Adding Federico Chiesa gives Liverpool another strong attacking option, just as more games are coming up. With Leoni out for two months or more, Chiesa has a chance to become an important part of the team. Fans and coaches are eager to see how he fits in and how he affects Liverpool’s European campaign.
