Federico Chiesa’s Liverpool Future Looks Bright After Match-Winning Display
Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, praised Federico Chiesa after the Italian forward scored an important goal to help the team win 4-2 against Bournemouth in their opening Premier League fixture. Chiesa’s heroics at Anfield showed why Slot believes the player has a bright future at the club. Liverpool kicked off their Premier League season with an exciting 4-2 win over Bournemouth.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Chiesa came off the bench at 2-2 in a see-saw encounter and made an instant impact by restoring Liverpool‘s lead despite them having squandered a two-goal advantage earlier in the game. The forward celebrated the goal jubilantly in front of a joyous Anfield crowd, with Mohamed Salah sealing the result with the fourth goal late on. Chiesa scored his first Premier League goal for Liverpool, but it was his third for the club, all of which have been scored late in games. It followed up Slot’s match-altering substitution which saw him throw the forward into the fray at Anfield. The Dutchman said in his post-match interview: “When we needed him, he delivered. And that is always positive for your future at a club.”
CHIESA’S DIFFICULT FIRST SEASON AND THE TEAM’S SITUATION
The Italian – who joined Liverpool from Juventus for £12 million in the summer of 2024 – has struggled to become a regular starter for Liverpool, making only one Premier League start last season after failing to impress in the first season with the club and missing out on the Asian tour this summer after picking up an injury. However, he was always well-liked among the fans, who often chanted his name late in games and also nominated him to take a penalty in a cup game last season. Liverpool ended up finishing as winners in the 2024-25 Premier League and will hope that they can push for the title again under boss Slot. The Reds have moved among the league leaders after the first round of fixtures.
LOOKING AHEAD: LIVERPOOL’S NEXT MATCH AND CHIESA’S ROLE
Liverpool travel to St. James’ Park to face Newcastle United on their second match of the campaign as the Premier League’s Matchweek Two comes to a close. Both teams came first and fifth respectively last season and finishing strongly. Both want to start this season brightly and have three points to their name after one game, although goal difference separates them at this early stage. Liverpool fans will be keen to see if Chiesa can make the difference once again and take another big step in his quest to become a regular at the club.
