Feyenoord Set to Sign Casper Tengstedt from Benfica
Feyenoord are close to signing striker Casper Tengstedt from Benfica. The deal should be completed soon. Tengstedt is ready for a new start in the Netherlands after tough times in Portugal and Italy.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Feyenoord and Benfica agreed quickly on Tengstedt‘s move. The striker has also agreed to join Feyenoord. Only final details are left before the move becomes official.
The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Italian side Hellas Verona, where he played 25 Serie A matches, scoring six goals and assisting twice. Although Tengstedt’s Benfica contract runs until 2028, he is no longer in their plans as confirmed in recent reports.
THE STRIKER’S JOURNEY
Tengstedt joined Benfica from Rosenborg in January 2023 but had little game time. He spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Hellas Verona in Italy, where he started brightly before suffering an ankle injury, limiting his impact in the second half of the campaign.
During his time at Verona, he scored six goals and assisted once. The club opted not to pursue a permanent deal for him. In Portugal, Tengstedt scored four goals and assisted three times in 29 appearances based on the latest statistics.
WHAT NEXT FOR FEYENOORD AND TENGSTEDT?
Feyenoord will now aim to incorporate Tengstedt into their squad as quickly as possible. Last season, Van Persie’s team finished third in the league, 11 points behind PSV Eindhoven. Tengstedt’s arrival will strengthen their attacking options for the new campaign, which begins next month against NEC, who finished mid-table last season, as the team is also playing Fenerbahce for the Champions League play-offs for a spot in the group stage. Feyenoord hope Tengstedt brings more goal power to help them close the gap to PSV and other top clubs in the league.
