Genoa Close to Signing Daniel Peretz From Bayern Munich

Genoa are close to signing Daniel Peretz from Bayern Munich. They are in advanced talks for a loan deal with an option to buy. The Italian club has identified the 24-year-old Israeli national team goalkeeper as their top goalkeeping target for the new season.

WHAT’S THE DEAL?

Genoa have officially submitted a bid to Bayern for Peretz that involves a loan deal with a buy option. The Israeli goalkeeper is under contract with Bayern until 2028. However, he has had limited playing time in Germany, making only five appearances this season. With both Manuel Neuer and Jonas Urbig sharing game time next season, Peretz has become surplus to immediate requirements. He is keen to pursue a move that would give him more minutes between the sticks. Genoa are intent on signing him, but they face competition from PSV Eindhoven, Burnley, and Leeds United, who are all closely monitoring the player’s situation. PSV can offer him Champions League football, making the race even tougher for Genoa.

GENOA’S AMBITIONS AND SQUAD SITUATION

Genoa finished 13th in Serie A last season. They were safe from relegation but far away from the European qualification spots. They need to strengthen their goalkeeping department as they bid for a better finish next season. Peretz, who is the starting goalkeeper for the Israeli national team, will immediately improve Genoa’s first XI.

His arrival will create competition for the current goalkeepers in the first team and Nicolo Neroni is expected to be shown the exit door if Peretz signs. Meanwhile, Bayern will do everything to facilitate the loan to help Peretz gain experience, with the club hoping the custodian will return as a stronger candidate for their number one shirt in the future.

WHAT COMES NEXT FOR PERETZ AND BOTH CLUBS?

Talks are ongoing between the two clubs and an agreement is considered close, with the player reportedly keen on the move. Genoa are well into their pre-season preparations, with their first Serie A fixture of the campaign just weeks away. Securing Peretz would be a significant signing as they would be strengthening a key area of the squad. Their first few league results and where they are placed in the league table in the initial weeks will shape the pressure on this new signing to deliver from the word go.

For Bayern, they will look to gain experience from Peretz’s loan move so he can, in the long run, challenge Urbig for the number one shirt.
