Giacomo Raspadori Leaves Napoli For Atletico Madrid In €26m Transfer
Giacomo Raspadori has left Napoli to join Atletico Madrid in a €26 million deal. The Italian forward will have a medical check and sign a five-year contract with the Spanish club.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Atletico Madrid and Napoli have agreed on a deal for Raspadori. The Spanish club will pay €22 million upfront plus €4 million in bonuses. With the paperwork close to completion, Raspadori has left Napoli’s training camp and is flying to Madrid to finalize the transfer. Raspadori played 26 Serie A games last season, scoring six goals and providing one assist, helping Napoli win the Serie A title under Antonio Conte. Although Raspadori mainly came on as a substitute, he made 35 appearances in all competitions for the Italian side.
NAPOLI AND ATLETICO: THE CURRENT SITUATION
Napoli finished last season as Serie A champions, beating big Italian rivals like Juventus and Inter Milan. However, they recently signed attacking players Noa Lang and Lorenzo Lucca, which would have reduced Raspadori’s playing time for the coming season. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid secured third spot in La Liga, so Diego Simeone’s side will be playing in the Champions League. The club has been active in the transfer market as well, signing players such as Matteo Ruggeri, Thiago Almada, Alex Baena, Clement Lenglet, and Johnny Cardoso.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR RASPADORI AND THE CLUBS?
Raspadori is expected to add depth and competition to Atletico Madrid’s attacking line. Letting Raspadori go could allow Napoli to pursue other targets such as Brian Brobbey, Yunus Musah, and Jack Grealish as the top two spot contenders in Europe hope to continue improving their squads for the rest of the campaign.
