Gio Reyna Agrees Personal Terms With Parma as Transfer Nears Completion

Gio Reyna has agreed personal terms with Parma. The club now needs to work out a transfer fee with Borussia Dortmund as the midfielder nears a move to Italy.

WHAT’S THE STORY?

Parma and Reyna have agreed a deal to run until 2029. However, the club still needs to agree a fee with Borussia Dortmund for the midfielder, who has a year left on his current contract. Reyna made 13 Bundesliga appearances last season, playing only 341 minutes of Germany’s top-flight. He also only saw just 12 minutes’ action when Dortmund played the Club World Cup. A fee of around €6 million plus possible bonuses is reported to be enough to get a deal over the line, as confirmed by previous reports.

WHY THIS MOVE MATTERS

Reyna needs to move to a club where he can play regular football, as he targets a place in the United States team for the 2026 World Cup. Parma were promoted back to Serie A for 2024-25 after two seasons away. They showed they wanted to stay in Italy’s top-flight last season, finishing 11th place, comfortably clear of the relegation zone.

WHAT NEXT FOR REYNA AND PARMA?

Reyna will hope his transfer can go through as quickly as possible so he can join up with his new team-mates and start life with a new team. He will be keen to hit the ground running and prove he should remain a Serie A player beyond 2025.
