Gio Simeone Nears Torino Move as Napoli Agree Deal
Giovanni Simeone is close to leaving Napoli for Torino. The Argentinian striker has agreed to personal terms and is now waiting for the final go-ahead to complete the transfer.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Torino and Napoli are almost done negotiating an €8 million deal for Giovanni Simeone to join the Granata. Simeone has agreed to personal terms with Torino and now just needs Napoli to confirm the transfer so he can travel for a medical examination. Torino are urgently looking for a striker after Duvan Zapata suffered a serious knee injury. They need a new leading striker for the upcoming Serie A season.
TORINO AND NAPOLI: SEASON SO FAR
Napoli are coming off a successful season, having won the 2024/25 Serie A title after a 2-0 win over Cagliari. However, Simeone played mainly as a backup to Romelu Lukaku, scoring just 2 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions. Torino, meanwhile, finished last season in 11th place in Serie A and are looking to improve by strengthening their squad through the transfer market.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
With the agreement almost complete, Gio Simeone is expected to undergo a medical at Torino in the next 24 to 48 hours. If the transfer is finalized, Simeone could make his debut in Torino’s opening Serie A match against Inter Milan. Torino are aiming to improve from last season’s 11th-place finish, while Udinese also ended in the bottom half of the table. Simeone’s signing should give Torino a much-needed boost in attack as they aim to catch up with the teams ahead of them when the league starts this month.
