Guilavogui Set to Depart Leeds United After Promotion Success
Joshua Guilavogui plans to leave Leeds United when his contract ends this summer. This will mark the end of his short but important time with the promoted club.
DEPARTURE CONFIRMED
The 34-year-old French midfielder will soon be a free agent as his contract with Leeds ends in June. Guilavogui joined the team in October 2024. His deal was always meant to last until the end of the 2024/25 season. Though his time at Elland Road was short, he made a big difference in their successful promotion run.
IMPACT AT LEEDS
Guilavogui hasn’t started any league games but played 16 times in total. His experience and leadership have been valuable. Teammates like Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph have praised him. After Leeds secured promotion to the Premier League on April 28, 2025, Guilavogui thanked the club on Instagram. He said: “I will never forget that night. With over 15 years in professional football, I still feel incredibly privileged to have shared such powerful emotions together.”
SUCCESSFUL SEASON
Leeds United have had an amazing season, returning to the Premier League after just one year in the Championship. With one match left, they are still in the race for the Championship title. Guilavogui mentioned this on social media, adding: “Now, one final battle remains to write history with this unique club, Leeds – we want the title.” Leeds are currently at the top of the Championship, just ahead of their rivals.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR GUILAVOGUI?
Some teammates, including Wilfried Gnonto and Joel Piroe, wanted Guilavogui to stay longer. But he has chosen to look for opportunities elsewhere. Despite being 34 and near the end of his career, Guilavogui is open to a new chapter in football. With his experience in France’s Ligue 1, Spain’s La Liga, and Germany’s Bundesliga, clubs may still find him a valuable option.
