Hansi Flick Agrees Barcelona Extension Until 2027 After Historic Season

Hansi Flick will remain the head coach of Barcelona until June 2027. The club will announce the new contract this week. Celebrations are continuing after one of Barcelona’s most successful seasons in recent years.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Barcelona and Flick have agreed to extend his contract by one year, keeping him until the summer of 2027. Flick signed a two-year deal when he joined last summer, with his contract due to end in 2026. But after winning LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup, Barcelona offered Flick an extra year at the club, with his original deal set to expire in 2026. Flick is said to have preferred a shorter extension because he wants flexibility and performance-based renewals as he ponders his long-term future in football.

BARÇA’S INCREDIBLE SEASON

Barcelona won the domestic treble under Flick this season, getting the better of fierce rivals Real Madrid and dominating in Spain. The team clinched LaLiga with two games to spare, sitting comfortably at the top of the table seven points ahead of Madrid. Young stars such as Pau Cubarsi, Pedri and Gavi have renewed their contracts to secure a bright future for Barcelona. The team celebrated winning their latest title with a 3-0 victory over Espanyol in the Catalan derby and will be hoping to build on that in the fixtures to come.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR FLICK AND BARCELONA?

With the league title secured, Barcelona will use their final two fixtures to rotate the squad and offer valuable experience to younger players. Attention will now turn to contract negotiations with other key players, including Jules Kounde and Raphinha, as they seek to strengthen the squad for the future. Barcelona’s next game is a home match against Mallorca, who are battling to avoid relegation and need a positive result. Meanwhile, Flick will discuss whether veteran goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will leave this summer, despite playing a crucial role in ter Stegen’s absence. The former Juventus shot-stopper has attracted strong interest from Major League Soccer, as he enters the final year of his contract.
