Hugo Larsson Rejects Saudi Offer to Stay in Europe

Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hugo Larsson has turned down a big contract from Saudi club Al Ittihad. He chose to stay in Europe as interest from top clubs grows.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Al Ittihad tried to sign Larsson with a huge offer, tempting the Swedish star to the Saudi Pro League. The 21-year-old is a hot target after rising in the Bundesliga since joining Eintracht from Malmö FF in 2023. Despite talks, Larsson quickly decided against it. He wants to stay in Europe and grow his game. In March 2025, he extended his contract with Eintracht Frankfurt until 2029. The club values him at €60 million, more than double his current market value. Larsson has played 23 league games this season, scoring three goals as a key player in midfield.

LARSSON’S IMPACT AND FRANKFURT’S SEASON

Larsson’s decision comes as Eintracht Frankfurt aims for a European spot in the Bundesliga. The club sits top of the league, with two wins in two matches and level on points with Bayern Munich. Larsson has played every game for Frankfurt this season. He contributes with goals and strong performances, making him a standout young talent in Germany. His technical skill, work rate, and leadership have been praised by sporting director Timmo Hardung, who said he is “a great fit in our dressing room”. Frankfurt has placed a €60 million price tag on Larsson, showing their intent to keep him. But he keeps attracting interest from Premier League teams.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR LARSSON AND EINTRACHT?

Larsson is staying, and Eintracht Frankfurt are preparing for their next match against Bayer Leverkusen, after the international break. The match is big for Frankfurt’s European ambitions as they try to continue as leaders. Larsson is expected to start, and his form will be crucial in this situation. While a move could still happen in the summer if a top European club meets Frankfurt’s price, for now, Larsson is focused on helping his team finish the season strong and push for Europe.
