Inter Miami Move Ahead with Messi Plans and Target Rodrigo de Paul

Inter Miami want to keep Lionel Messi for longer than his current contract, and they are now in talks to sign Rodrigo de Paul from Atlético Madrid.

According to a previous report, Inter Miami have started talks with Atlético Madrid to sign Rodrigo De Paul.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Inter Miami want to extend Messi‘s contract, and talks are going well despite recent uncertainty. Messi joined the club in July 2023 and is enjoying his time in Miami, both on and off the pitch. Meanwhile, Inter Miami are also trying to sign Atlético Madrid midfielder Rodrigo de Paul, who is keen to join his compatriot in Florida.

Rodrigo de Paul is in the last year of his contract with Atlético Madrid, as confirmed by a previous report.

WHY ARE INTER MIAMI MAKING THESE MOVES?

Inter Miami want Messi to lead them into their new Miami Freedom Park stadium in 2026. Co-owner Jorge Mas is confident of agreeing a new contract with the World Cup winner, and the club want to build a team capable of winning major trophies. Their interest in de Paul fits into this strategy, and Messi is reportedly helping to persuade top players like the Atlético man to join him in Miami.

Rodrigo de Paul is open to moving to Major League Soccer, which aligns with Inter Miami’s strategy to strengthen their squad.

WHAT NEXT FOR INTER MIAMI?

Messi is expected to sign his extension soon, while Inter Miami are preparing for their next MLS game against CF Montreal. They are third in the Eastern Conference, three points behind leaders FC Cincinnati.

As noted in a previous report, Inter Miami is currently third in its conference and aims to improve their standing.

De Paul’s current club Atlético Madrid will want to strengthen if the midfielder leaves, while Inter Miami will hope this signing can boost their title chances when they move into their new stadium in 2026.
