Inter Milan to Sign Manuel Akanji Permanently in Summer 2026
Inter Milan has decided to sign Manuel Akanji from Manchester City permanently in summer 2026 for €15 million. The club is very happy with his performance and wants him in their future plans, as signing Akanji would be a huge boost for their squad.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Inter signed Akanji from Manchester City on transfer deadline day after selling Benjamin Pavard to Marseille. Pavard left Inter Milan after two seasons, playing in 69 matches and scoring once. Akanji joined Inter with an initial loan deal, which includes an option to make the switch permanent for €15 million. The Swiss defender settled quickly and will start their upcoming fixture against Juventus. He has taken Jan Aurel Bisseck’s position on the right of the back three and will play alongside Francisco Acerbi and Alessandro Bastoni, with Yann Sommer as the goalkeeper. Inter is impressed with Akanji’s performance, whose edge and quality were missed after Pavard’s departure. Akanji had the best passing accuracy in the Premier League last season of 93.8% and Inter’s coaches are pleased to have him in their backline.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Inter’s move to sign Akanji permanently could prove important in their quest for silverware this season. Inter Milan is currently fifth in the Serie A table. Chivu’s team won their last Serie A game against Cagliari to bridge the gap at the top of the table. With three wins and two losses from five games, the team is three oints behind Napoli, AC Milan and AS Roma, who lead the table. Both teams will look to strengthen their positions as the season progresses, and if Akanji can fulfil his potential in a blue and black shirt, he can help Inter defend their title.
WHAT NEXT?
Inter play Slavia Praha for the Champions Legaue’s 2nd match after beating Ajax in the opener and before hosting Cremonese for the Serie A next weekend before the international break.
