Inzaghi Signs Two-Year Deal as Al Hilal Manager with €26m Salary

Simone Inzaghi is officially joining Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal. He signed a big two-year contract in Paris today with the club president. The former Inter Milan manager will earn an incredible €26 million net per season as he starts this new chapter of his career.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Simone Inzaghi has completed his move to Al Hilal by signing his contract in Paris with the Saudi club’s president. The 49-year-old Italian manager ended his four-year spell with Inter Milan yesterday. This came after the club’s painful 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. In addition to his €26 million yearly salary, his new deal will reportedly include a signing bonus between €4 million and €5 million, with an option for a third season based on team performance.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Inzaghi is leaving Italy after a successful coaching career at both Lazio and Inter Milan. During his four seasons with Inter, he won six trophies including one Serie A title in 2024 (Inter’s 20th league title). He also won two Coppa Italia trophies (2022, 2023) and three Supercoppa Italiana titles (2021, 2022, 2023). However, despite his success in Italy, he could not win the Champions League, as Inter reached the final twice under him but lost both times to Manchester City in 2023 and most recently to PSG in Munich.

The 2024-25 season ended in disappointment for Inter, as they could not defend their Serie A title. Antonio Conte’s Napoli won the Scudetto. The Champions League final humiliation against PSG eventually marked the end of Inzaghi’s time at the San Siro, even though he had one year left on his contract.

WHAT NEXT FOR INZAGHI?

Inzaghi has an immediate challenge in his new role as Al Hilal are set to play in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States. His first match will be against European giants Real Madrid on June 14. This gives him little time to prepare his new team for this big test. Sources suggest that Inzaghi will fly to the USA soon, while an Al Hilal representative has already arrived in Milan to complete the remaining paperwork for his appointment.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan must quickly find a replacement as they also have their own Club World Cup participation coming up. Early candidates reportedly include Cesc Fàbregas (currently at Como), Roberto De Zerbi (recently hired by Marseille), and former Inter defender Cristian Chivu (current Parma manager). The Italian champions will need to act fast to ensure a smooth transition as they begin life after Inzaghi’s era.
