Ipswich Town Push for Loan Move to Chelsea’s Marc Guiu

Ipswich Town wants to borrow 19-year-old striker Marc Guiu from Chelsea for next season. Manager Kieran McKenna sees Guiu as important for the team after Ipswich’s relegation to the Championship.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The club has told Chelsea they want Guiu on loan for the 2025-26 season. This comes as the two clubs talk often, partly because Chelsea wants Ipswich forward Liam Delap. Delap will probably join Chelsea, but the Guiu deal is separate. Ipswich really wants Guiu for his goals. Guiu recently came back from injury and scored six goals in seven Conference League games, helping Chelsea win their first trophy under manager Enzo Maresca.

THE CONTEXT: IPSWICH, CHELSEA, AND PLAYER PROFILES

Ipswich finished 19th in the Premier League and will return to the Championship in 2025-26. They need to rebuild after relegation, and more attack power is important. Guiu used to play for Barcelona and isn’t sure about moving to Ipswich, especially after doing well in European games. Chelsea plans to activate a £30 million release clause for Delap, changing their own attack and likely making Guiu the third-choice striker next season.

WHAT NEXT FOR IPSWICH AND GUIU?

Ipswich wants to convince Guiu that playing often in the Championship will help him grow. As Chelsea’s attack options increase, Ipswich hopes Guiu will see the move as a chance for regular game time. The team is getting ready for the new season and expects tough competition from recently relegated Burnley and Luton Town. They will play Swansea City in their first match, a team that finished mid-table last season. With high hopes for promotion, signing Guiu could give Ipswich the attacking strength they need for a strong start in their effort to return to the Premier League.
