Ismael Bennacer Completes Loan Move to Dinamo Zagreb
Midfielder Ismael Bennacer has joined Dinamo Zagreb on loan from AC Milan. The deal includes a €10 million buy option for next summer. Dinamo will cover 40% of his salary during his stay. This move, which includes an option to buy Bennacer, allows AC Milan to manage their squad more effectively.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The transfer was completed less than a day after news first broke. Bennacer, an Algerian international, leaves Milan to join Dinamo Zagreb in a deal that could become permanent. Dinamo, seeking a midfield boost for a title challenge, outbid several European clubs for Bennacer. Zvone Boban, a Croatian legend and Dinamo executive, played a key role in the move. Boban personally called Bennacer to convince him to join. This transfer occurs at a time when Dinamo Zagreb currently leads the HNL.
WHY THE MOVE MATTERS
This transfer happens at a critical time in the season. Dinamo Zagreb are first in the Croatian First Football League, as they prepare to play title contenders Hajduk Split jsut after the international break. Dinamo have 16 points and need to strengthen after a tough start. Bennacer, who dealt with injuries last season, made only 13 league appearances for Milan without scoring or assisting. His arrival could help Dinamo regain midfield control and boost their title hopes.
WHAT COMES NEXT?
Bennacer is expected to quickly join Dinamo’s starting eleven and could debut in their next league match against Hajduk. Hajduk are top of the table alongside Dinamo, making it an important test for both teams. Milan, meanwhile, have lost a midfield option and sit mid-table in Serie A, with three points from two matches. If Bennacer performs well, Dinamo may activate the €10 million buy clause before next summer.
