Jan Ziolkowski Set to Join AS Roma from Legia Warsaw

AS Roma are signing young Polish defender Jan Ziolkowski from Legia Warsaw for €6.6 million. Legia will also get 10% from future profits on his transfer. This move shows Roma’s plan to strengthen their defense for the new season, especially as they aim to challenge for the title after finishing fifth last season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Roma and Legia Warsaw finalized the deal for Ziolkowski after negotiations. Roma will pay a €6.6 million fee with no add-ons. Legia will receive 10% of any future sale profit. The clubs are finishing the paperwork, and then Ziolkowski is expected to travel to Italy to join Roma shortly after his final match for Legia Warsaw, as confirmed by a recent report.

DEAL MEANS BIG CHANGE FOR ROMA AND LEGIA

Jan Ziolkowski, 20, is a big talent for Roma after impressing in Poland. He played 36 Ekstraklasa matches last season, scoring 3 goals and assisting 2, helping Legia finish fifth. Roma finished fifth in Serie A, having allowed 47 goals, and need new defensive talent. While Legia lose a key player, they gain financially and can reinvest for their title challenge, as they are currently second in the Polish league, two points behind Raków.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE CLUBS?

Roma are preparing for Ziolkowski’s arrival before their Serie A match against Pisa. Legia will face Piast Gliwice this weekend, aiming to stay in the title race. Ziolkowski is expected to sign a long-term contract that will keep him at the club until 2030, providing Roma with much-needed depth for a busy season.
