Jarell Quansah Open to Bayer Leverkusen Move as Clubs Hold Transfer Talks

Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah is thinking about moving to Bayer Leverkusen. Both clubs are talking about a possible transfer. The young centre-back wants to play more regularly in the Bundesliga.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Bayer Leverkusen is trying hard to sign Jarell Quansah from Liverpool. The 22-year-old defender is open to joining the German champions. They need new players after losing Jonathan Tah to Bayern Munich. The clubs are actively negotiating after completing deals for Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong. Leverkusen might offer around €30 million for Quansah, but Liverpool wants more. Quansah signed a five-year contract last October, but he is below Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate in Liverpool’s order. This makes him want more first-team chances.

WHY LEVERKUSEN WANT QUANSAH

Bayer Leverkusen had a great 2024/25 season, winning the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal. They were strong defensively, but Jonathan Tah’s move to Bayern leaves a gap in their defense. Quansah impressed with his performances. He was even considered for an England call-up, making him a good replacement. Meanwhile, Liverpool, after winning the Premier League, are changing their squad significantly. They signed Florian Wirtz for a British-record fee. If Quansah leaves, Liverpool might bring in Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi as a replacement.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR BOTH CLUBS?

Bayer Leverkusen wants to defend their Bundesliga title and do better in the Champions League next season. Their next game is a pre-season friendly before they play Bayern Munich in the DFL-Supercup. Bayern finished just behind them last season. Liverpool, after winning the league title, will be working Wirtz into the team and possibly looking for another defender if Quansah leaves. Their next game is against Manchester City in the Community Shield. The result of Quansah’s transfer could affect both teams’ defensive plans for the season. Both aim for success at home and in Europe.
