Jesús Fortea Signs Long-Term Deal with Real Madrid

Real Madrid’s young right-back, Jesús Fortea, is set to sign a new contract with the club until June 2029. This is a big change for the talented defender, who seemed set to leave the club just a few weeks ago.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Real Madrid and Jesús Fortea have agreed on a contract extension for the 17-year-old for four more years. Fortea joined Real Madrid’s U19 team from Atlético Madrid in 2023 but faced limited opportunities. However, recent coaching changes have given him new hope. Now, Real Madrid has presented a clear development plan for him, including possible inclusion in the squad for the upcoming Club World Cup. Fortea’s new deal is set to be finalized soon, with all parties pleased with the terms.

FROM EXIT TO PROMOTION

Fortea’s situation was uncertain for much of the season. He considered leaving due to a lack of playing time. The arrival of Xabi Alonso as first-team coach and Álvaro Arbeloa’s promotion to Castilla changed everything. Arbeloa, who closely worked with Fortea in the youth teams, is expected to promote him to the reserve side. Real Madrid now has renewed faith in Fortea as they continue to reshape their squad and focus on youth development under new leadership.

WHAT NEXT FOR REAL MADRID AND FORTEA?

Fortea is expected to join Real Madrid Castilla next season, with hopes of making his first-team debut. The club is preparing for the FIFA Club World Cup in June, and Fortea could be part of the squad. Real Madrid finished the 2024/25 season as La Liga champions with 94 points, ahead of Barcelona and Atlético Madrid. Castilla narrowly missed out on promotion to Segunda División and will rely on Fortea next season. Xabi Alonso is likely to integrate several academy players, including Fortea, into the senior squad as Real Madrid prepares for a busy summer of matches and high expectations for next year.
